My project begins with a question. “What are you going to make with this material”? I worked in Fabrics and Crafts at Wal-Mart and when I cut fabric for my customers, I asked them that question. One customer was purchasing all the dollar material we had. Most was not pretty, but she purchased a yard of everything. So I asked the question “What are you going to make with this material”?), and she said she was going to make dresses to send overseas to Honduras. I thought, oh my, I could do that but I would make beautiful little dresses instead, not anything plain. So the seed was planted.

What’s special about her is that last year she sent 20 to 30 hand made dresses by the hands of one of our docs on last years team. The dresses were an instant hit as you can imagine. This year the doc could not came again, so he told her “I guess you’ll just have to TAKE them yourself.” That is just what she did, only she brought over 100 dresses and pants for children.
After just a few word of mouth encounters, Annie Bland’s Dorcas Project has taken on a new meaning. She has enlisted sewers from all over and as of today she has sent out over 2800 little dresses to Africa, Haiti, Honduras, El Salvador, the Philippines, Guainía, Trinidad and others places in the world.
